President’s Task Force on Aboriginal Students

Message from the President

Saint Mary’s University is built upon an environment that is welcoming and inclusive of all nationalities and all cultures. In our efforts to support all students, we recognized there was work to be done and best practices to learn from to better support our Aboriginal students and have them feel a part of the Saint Mary’s community. To address these concerns I called for the creation of the Aboriginal Students Task Force and commissioned a report. With the report now complete and implementation of some of its recommendations already proceeding we are on our way to advancing support for aboriginal students at Saint Mary’s.

I would like to thank the Task force and chair Dr. Peter Twohig for their exemplary work in producing this report and the recommendations within it. The report draws upon strong research and best practices to identify areas where Saint Mary’s can introduce new and improved resources to advance support to Aboriginal students on campus.

I look forward to the realization of many of the report recommendations, resulting in a more inclusive and improved experience for Aboriginal students at Saint Mary’s.
